Day 1 Quito Welcome to Equador’s capitol city! Enjoy the Spanish Colonial style Casa Gangotena Hotel just steps from the city’s historic center.
Day 2 Quito Tour Plaza de San Francisco built atop Incan temples and markets – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site – followed by the pre-Columbian Casa del Alabado Museum.
Day 3 Quito to San Cristobal Island Morning flight to the Galapagos Islands. Board La Pinta . Embark on cruise. First shore tour to view dozens of bird species, San Cristobal lava lizards and a tortoise breeding center.
Day 4 San Cristobal Island Explore the eastern part of the island. At Punta Pitt observe magnificent frigate birds, three species of boobies and bachelor sea lions. On the northern tip of the island, walk upon tranquil coral sands amid shore birds, sea lions and marine iguanas.
Day 5 Espanola Island Magnificent frigate birds, waved albatross, sea birds, shore birds, finches and mockingbirds may be viewed. Optional snorkeling, kayaking and glass-bottomed boat for viewing green sea turtles and sea lions.
Day 6 Santa Cruz Island Tour Charles Darwin Research Station where giant tortoise hatchlings are reared for release into the wild. Later, visit highland forest habitats to view giant tortoise adults up close. Included lava tube excursion to round out the day.
Day 7 Eden Islet Walk amid blue-footed boobies and magnificent frigate birds. Swim, snorkel, walk on the beach or use the glass-bottomed boat to come close to wildlife that has not learned to fear humans. Explore Sombrero Chino Islet amid sea iguanas, sea lions and sally light foot crabs. Water activities as usual. Chance to see white-tipped reef sharks and indigenous Galapagos penguins.
Day 8 Bartolome Island You may wish to climb the wooden stairs to Pinnacle Rock for exquisite panoramic views. Wildlife includes green sea turtles, Galapagos penguins and rays. Explore Santiago Island’s white sandy beach at Sullivan Bay. Water activities as usual. Optional hike to a lava field.
Day 9 Genovesa Island Leisurely exploration of Darwin Bay for magnificent frigate birds, red-footed boobies, Darwin finches, storm petrels and nocturnal swallow-tailed gulls. Water activities. Occasionally, an elusive short-eared owl is spotted.
Day 10 Baltra Island to Quito Disembark La Pinta with a lifetime of memories. Fly to Guayaquil with a short stop-over to allow passengers who have chosen to extend their trip to Peru’s Machu Picchu. All others will be flown to Quito for their homebound connections.
A passport is required. Daily itineraries may be varied in order to maximize your experience.
